Signing the R&D contract with the “Animal Production and Food Science” research group at the University of Zaragoza is a highly relevant scientific milestone for heliCO2farm. This team brings deep expertise in biological systems, metabolism, and agri‑food production, all essential elements for our nature‑inspired carbon capture approach. The collaboration enables us to design and validate optimized biotic habitats for CO₂ fixation. It is a clear example of science applied to the climate challenge.

Thanks to this contract, we can run controlled experiments analyzing the interactions between living organisms, environmental conditions, and carbon flows. This helps us define operating parameters, performance curves, and continuous improvement strategies. The group’s experience in animal production and food systems also contributes very practical know‑how on environmental control, biosafety, and the management of living systems. All this translates into more robust and reliable designs for our capture habitats.

This partnership also reinforces the agri‑food dimension of the project, opening the door to future synergies in areas such as circular economy, by‑product valorization, or integration with farming and livestock operations. Combining carbon capture with sustainable agri‑food production is one of the lines we want to explore in the medium term. Having a university group with a long track record in this field places us in a strong position to tackle these developments. The potential territorial impact is significant.

From a positioning standpoint, this milestone underscores that heliCO2farm is built on solid science and interdisciplinary collaboration. The involvement of UNIZAR research groups in our R&D lines strengthens the credibility of our biomineralization system and of the MRV (measurement, reporting, and verification) methodologies we are developing.
