Allocation of a laboratory at the Veterinary Campus (UNIZAR)

The allocation of a laboratory at the University of Zaragoza’s Veterinary Campus is another key step in the scientific development of heliCO2farm. This space provides a fully equipped environment for biological and biomineralization tests linked to our CO₂ capture system. Being located in a campus specialized in life sciences fits perfectly with our biomimetic approach. It allows us to work side by side with experts in biology, veterinary science, and animal production.

The lab will be used to conduct controlled experiments on organisms and materials involved in the dual biological cycle we propose. Here, we can study carbon fixation processes, biomineral stability, and optimal operating conditions. These experiments are essential to refine the design of biotic habitats and ensure process robustness over the long term. The quality of our results will largely depend on having infrastructures like this.

Our presence at the Veterinary Campus also strengthens our integration in UNIZAR’s scientific community, making it easier to connect formally and informally with other research groups. This proximity promotes idea exchange, new project generation, and participation in academic networks. For a science‑based startup, such a network is as important as any piece of equipment. It helps us spot opportunities and anticipate trends.

This milestone allows us to move forward in parallel on two fronts: the IoT experimental habitat and more fine‑grained laboratory testing. The combination of both testing environments will accelerate the project’s learning curve and provide solid evidence for future publications, patents, and commercial developments. We will share relevant progress and results as they are consolidated. The Veterinary Campus lab will undoubtedly be one of the main innovation hubs of heliCO2farm.
